From an idea by David Littler (over a pint of beer in the pub whilst reading the V&A publication: Samplers by Clare Brown and Jennifer Wearden), to bring his two passions of textiles and sound together through the common word "sampler". Four years later sampler-cultureclash has now grown to become an international collective of artists exploring the connections between people, materials, machines and sound. Welcome to a world of sampling shenanigans.
We’re delighted to announce that sampler-cultureclash is featured in the excellent new book “Hand Stitch Perspectives” by Alice Kettle and Jane McKeating published by Bloomsbury. We appear in Alice Kettle’s chapter “Sound, Light and Air” alongside the work of artists Janet Echelman and Sally Morfill.

Sampled and looped sections of a pixel drawing on paper being played through a music box. The sound recording is then played through an oscilloscope. The pixel drawing score was created during a one day sampler-cultureclash workshop with students from BA Textile and Surface Design Course at Weissensee Art School, Berlin (KHB) Nov 2010.
